Planning a family vacation to Kiawah Island? As a local mom with feral 8 & 9 year old boys myself, I understand the necessity for family friendly restaurants that are crowd pleasers for even the pickiest eaters! From wood-fired pizza and Lowcountry seafood to barbecue, ice cream, and casual cafés, here are the very Best Restaurants on Kiawah Island with Kids! These are our top 10 favorite kid-friendly restaurants near Kiawah Island that your whole family will enjoy!
I’m a mom and also a professional family photographer (for the last 17 years!) and one of the things that I love most about photographing vacationing families on Kiawah is hearing about their favorite meals or restaurants that they’ve visited during their trip!
As a Charleston family photographer, I spend a lot of time helping families plan the perfect vacation experience, and one question I hear often is:
“Where should we eat with kids on Kiawah Island?”
Fortunately, Kiawah and neighboring Freshfields Village offer plenty of wonderful family-friendly restaurants that make dining with children easy, delicious, and memorable!

1. La Tela Pizzeria
Best for: Pizza Night
Vacation and pizza simply belong together!
La Tela Pizzeria serves handmade pizzas, fresh pasta, salads, and Italian favorites in a relaxed atmosphere that’s ideal after a day at the beach. Kids love watching the pizzas come out of the oven, while parents appreciate the fresh ingredients and extensive wine list.
If your family needs one easy dinner everyone will agree on, this is it.
Order: Wood-fired pizza, garlic knots, fresh pasta.

2. Jasmine Porch at The Sanctuary
Best for: A Special Family Dinner
If you’re celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or simply want one memorable dinner during your vacation, Jasmine Porch is hard to beat.
Located inside The Sanctuary, the restaurant serves elevated Lowcountry cuisine in an elegant—but welcoming—setting. While it’s more upscale than many island restaurants, families are absolutely welcome, especially earlier in the evening.
Order: She-crab soup, shrimp and grits, fresh seafood.

3. Cherrywood BBQ & Ale House
Best for: Casual Family Meals
Barbecue is almost always a win with kids which is why it ranks among the Best Restaurants on Kiawah Island with Kids in my book!
Cherrywood BBQ serves smoked brisket, pulled pork, ribs, mac and cheese, and hearty Southern sides in a relaxed clubhouse setting. The generous portions and laid-back atmosphere make it one of the easiest places to dine with children.

4. The Players’ Pub
Best for: Burgers & Comfort Food
Sometimes after a full beach day, everyone simply wants burgers and fries.
The Players’ Pub is known for approachable American favorites with a menu that appeals to adults and children alike. Multiple TVs, outdoor seating, and kid-friendly classics make it an easy choice for families.

5. Tomasso at Turtle Point
Best for: Italian Night
Fresh pasta.
Wood-fired pizza.
House-made bread.
Tomasso is one of Kiawah’s favorite Italian restaurants and a wonderful choice when you’re looking for something a little more elevated without feeling overly formal. I don’t know a kid who doesn’t love pizza, pasta or bread which is why Tamasson ranks among the Best Restaurants on Kiawah Island with Kids! Families particularly love sharing pizzas alongside homemade pasta dishes.

6. Periwinkle Kitchen
Best for: Breakfast & Lunch
Need a quick breakfast before heading to the beach?
Periwinkle Kitchen has become a favorite for breakfast sandwiches, coffee, smoothies, salads, and fresh grab-and-go meals. It’s perfect for busy vacation mornings before a beach day or family adventure.

7. Café Eugenia
Best for: Brunch
If your family enjoys a slower vacation morning, Café Eugenia is one of the area’s hidden gems.
Fresh pastries, breakfast favorites, specialty coffee, and beautiful outdoor seating make it a wonderful stop before exploring Freshfields Village.

8. Mingo Point Oyster Roast & BBQ
Best for: A True Lowcountry Experience
If you’re visiting during the summer, don’t miss Kiawah’s famous Mingo Point Oyster Roast & BBQ.
This isn’t just dinner—it’s an experience.
Children receive fun activities, families enjoy live music, classic Lowcountry barbecue, oyster roasts, and breathtaking sunset views over the marsh. It’s one of the most memorable evenings you can have on Kiawah Island.

9. Freshfields Village
Sometimes everyone wants something different.
That’s exactly why Freshfields Village is such a great option for families.
Instead of settling on one restaurant, everyone can choose what they’re craving—from tacos and sushi to pizza, sandwiches, cafés, desserts, and ice cream—all within an easy walk of one another. Outdoor seating, green spaces, and frequent live music make it especially enjoyable for families with children.

10. Dessert Is Always a Good Idea
One of my favorite vacation traditions is ending the evening with something sweet.
Whether it’s homemade ice cream, gelato, cookies, or candy from Freshfields Village, letting the kids pick out dessert after dinner is a simple tradition they’ll remember long after the vacation ends.
Sometimes it’s those little moments—not the big attractions—that become the memories everyone talks about for years.

Tips for Dining on Kiawah Island with Kids
A little planning goes a long way, especially during the busy summer months!
Here are a few tips I share with families visiting Kiawah:
- Make dinner reservations well in advance for popular restaurants.
- Plan earlier dinners (around 5:00–5:30 p.m.) to avoid long waits with tired little ones.
- Keep snacks on hand if you’ve spent the day at the beach.
- Freshfields Village is a wonderful backup if your group can’t agree on one restaurant.
- If you’re planning family portraits during your vacation, schedule portraits for after dinner (make portrait night an early dinner night!) Kids are usually when they’ve showered & rested for a little bit after a beach day, and when they’re not hungry, and afterward you can celebrate with ice cream or gelato!

Make Dinner Part of the Memory
One of the reasons I love photographing vacationing families is that I know the photographs become part of a much bigger story.
It’s not just about the hour we spend together on the beach.
It’s about bike rides in the morning, beach in the early part of the day, an afternoon siesta before an early dinner, beach sandy feet at sunset for portraits and ice cream afterward, before bed! These are the the traditions your children will remember long after they’ve grown!
If you’re planning a family vacation to Kiawah Island, I hope you’ll make time for both—an unforgettable meal together and beautiful family portraits that preserve this season forever! xo – Brittany
