Cypress Gardens was made mainstream famous by Noah & Allie when they canoed through the beautiful cypress swamp, surrounded by swans in the film adaptation of The Notebook! Lucky for us, Cypress Gardens is located just about 30-40 minutes west of Charleston, in Monks Corner as part of Francis Marion National Forest! The gardens are famous for their extensive cypress swamps, featuring towering cypress trees draped in Spanish moss. One of the unique attractions at Cypress Gardens is the opportunity to paddle a canoe through the serene swamp environment, providing a stunning backdrop for your proposal or engagement photography or for your family portrait session!
Each Charleston family portrait session begins with a curated Client Prep Guide, thoughtfully designed to prepare you for a seamless experience. From wardrobe coordination to location planning and session flow, every detail is handled in advance. After booking, we schedule a private consultation to refine your vision and ensure your session feels effortless, intentional, and beautifully tailored to your family.

At Holy City Families we value family & try really hard to prioritize having a Healthy Work / Life Balance. We believe that it directly affects our attitude, energy, creativity and ultimately our success.
As such, we can only accept 10 families for Family Portrait Sessions each month.
We encourage you to book you session as far in advance as possible to ensure availability for your family!
How far in advance should we book our session?
We can shoot your Family Portraits in and around downtown Charleston, Hampton Park, Charlestowne Landing, Magnolia Gardens, Cypress Gardens, at one of our beautiful County Parks, on Isle of Palms, Folly Beach, Kiawah Island or Seabrook Island.
The possibilities are limitless!
During your pre-session phone consultation, I will talk with you about the types of locations that interest you & help you to select a photo location that will be perfect for your family!
Where & When do we shoot?
The softest, most flattering light of the day happens in the 90 minutes after sunrise or in the 90 minutes before sunset. With that being said, we can shoot at any time of day, as long as you understand that the sunlight (looks) different at 1pm than it does at 6pm. If you want to shoot in the middle of the day, we’ll just need to get a little creative with locations, vantage point and posing! Downtown Charleston is a fantastic option for shooting in the middle of the day!
What time of day do we shoot?
I am frequently asked to photograph Extended Families vacationing in in Charleston and on our nearby beaches! I am happy to travel to your vacation rental or I can show you some of the most beautiful vistas that the lowcountry has to offer for your Family Portraits!
What about our Extended Family?
You’ll want to dress in a way that feels authentic. You’ll want to dress in a way that makes you feel comfortable and confident — like the very best version of you! During your pre-session phone consultation, we'll discuss wardrobe. I am happy to help you to put together your wardrobe for the session.
What should we wear?

Can we bring the dog?
Due to high demand and limited availability, Creative Fees are non-refundable for any reason.
In the event of illness, inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, we will simply re-schedule for the very next available date / time that works for both of us!
If possible, we will shoot before or after any inclement weather is expected to arrive.
What is your cancellation policy?
I am positively delighted that you've landed here! An Asheville native and third generation photographer, I've spent the first 15 years of my career serving the mountains of WNC but had always held a long term love affair with the low country of South Carolina, having spent all my summers along it's beautiful coast!
In 2024, I moved myself & my son, Noah (9) to Charleston in pursuit of our Happily Ever After with my partner, Chris & his son, Sam!
